Summer’s Ending
And I finally wrote a newsletter…
I’m writing from Harstine, Island, WA on a self-imposed creative retreat with two friends. I’m working outside, looking out onto a field behind our VRBO. There’s an apple orchard, a family of deer, and all of it is surrounded by a dense cedar forest (and occasional gun shots).
The whole summer has not been like this…
But I have spent some time thinking about a new project I’m working on.
My proposal received a 4Culture individual project grant. I originally proposed a “long zine”, but now I’m worried/excited that it may in fact be a “short book.” I’m intending to publish the book in fall 2027.
Until this weekend away I had not done much work on this project other than read a few children’s books of Yiddish folktales, haphazardly begin a Yiddish course on DuoLingo, and apply to a dreamy far-reach artist’s residency for next summer that allows your family to join you and provides a free camp for the artist’s kids.
I am hoping to set some sort of structured work schedule to continue into the fall, since soon enough the school year begins (Lucy comes to kindergarten at my school this year) and the busyness and physical exhaustion of all that will set in.
While you wait to hear from me again…
Buy the Short Run Anthology NIGHT SHIFT (featuring a comic by me alongside many greats!)

Congratulations on the 4culture grant!
